Trauma, Addiction, and Anxiety Therapy in Charlotte, NC
My Background and Approach
I believe we were born with the ability to handle and release difficult experiences. We were not put on this earth to be lonely, in pain, and stuck. The problem is, many of us were not shown how to take care of ourselves or have a healthy relationship with our emotions, needs/wants, and bodies. Many of us were not shown how to have balance in our life, move through conflict, and understand what healthy intimacy and love is. In sessions you will learn how to do these things so that you start seeing changes outside the therapy room and experience deeper relationships with yourself and others. Typically my clients are high functioning in many areas but cannot pinpoint why they struggle in relationships, feel chronically unhappy, or chronically unworthy. I treat from a strengths-based perspective, meaning I look for and utilize the innate gifts my clients were born with or have nurtured, rather than focusing on what they’re lacking. I believe that post-traumatic growth is real and possible and that all behavior makes sense in context.

I have been in the field for the past 11 years and have worked in private practice for the past 5. My clients describe my approach as human, warm, professional, and creative. I obtained my Bachelor’s in Psychology from UNC-Chapel Hill and my Master of Social Work from Florida Atlantic University. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist. Beyond graduate school, I have taken thousands of hours of additional trainings to combine techniques from Somatic Experiencing, EMDR, Psychodrama, Internal Family Systems, Transforming Touch, and more. Combining talk therapy with these action and body oriented approaches provides long term results for my clients in areas of their life where they previously felt stuck. Many clients share that they have never done the type of therapy I offer and that it provides a much different experience both inside and outside the therapy room. We will find solutions that go beyond understanding the "why" of your struggles and we will go deeper than just "what happened this week?"

My personal experience with therapy began in high school when I was a “behavioral problem” and experimenting with harmful ways to cope. Since that time, I have participated in individual therapy, group therapy, workshops, intensive therapy, and support groups. I believe that I am unable to take my clients to places that I have not been myself in terms of depth and healing experiences. I don't ask my clients to do anything therapeutically that I have not done myself. I chose Social Work as a profession because of its inclusivity and alignment with my personal beliefs. I look forward to meeting you and supporting you in living the life I know is out there for you.
